This project evolved out of a desire to put forward
an alternative approach to the phenomenon of depopulation in East Manchester.
Various 'community-centered' regeneration attempts had achieved little
success and failed to address the large areas of industrial and residential
        land that lay derelict.

This project suggested an alternative response in the form of an Urban Farm
which would turn empty land into herb fields to provide the raw material
for cosmetics and toiletries. The farm was arranged alongside one of Manchester's
primary arterial roads and utilised the layout of the various herb fields
to provide a sculptural optical experience for passing road users.
